Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update - May 28th 2020

Whilst we are now through the peak of this Pandemic it is vitally important that we all continue to follow the Government/Public Health advice as advertised.

Please review the Coronavirus update below as this information is still current. We are still requesting that patients do NOT visit the Medical Centre unless absolutely necessary. We strongly encourage you to use our on-line services including on-line E-consults, Telephone and Video consultations as well as requesting repeat medications and medical certificates on-line. Indeed we hope you will continue to do so after the Pandemic subsides.

If you require an appointment with a Doctor or Nurse please ring only during the morning. We are responding to almost all enquiries the same day providing you ring in the morning. Please DO NOT ring any more at 2pm or in the afternoon unless your problem is urgent. We have more staff to answer the phone and more Doctors and  Nurses to respond in the morning. Please disregard historic advice to ring from 2pm for afternoon appointments as few are available. Our key message is:



Our Medical Centre is participating in a National Trial to look at the effectiveness of certain medications when given early to patients with symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

Those patients who are eligible to participate will have received a text message from us. This is legitimate and if you develop symptoms even if very mild and are willing to participate please follow the instructions in the text message. If you have any queries please contact Reception.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Latest News March 20th 2020

If you have a new persistent cough or fever DO NOT visit the medical centre but self isolate yourself for 1 week and do not contact 111. Please see further advice using the link above to NHS 111 online.

Our Medical Centre is open for our normal hours but some services have changed. We are receiving a very large number of queries at the present time so we ask for your patience with longer than usual delays in responding to queries.

Please be aware of the following guidance as at 18.3.20 until further notice. These are additional precautions due to Coronavirus (Covid-19):

  • In general please try to avoid visiting the Medical Centre in person at all times unless you have an appointment or are picking up a prescription.
  • With effect from Monday 16th March we are only able to make appointments if you telephone the Medical Centre. PLEASE DO NOT COME IN TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AS THIS WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE. The Reception staff have been told to ask you a few medical questions in the interests of safety to our staff and patients.
  • ALL patients requesting an appointment will be asked to speak to a Doctor first who can offer advice and discuss with you the best course of action
  • You can do lots of things on-line such as request repeat prescriptions, send prescription-related queries and even view parts of your medical record. We can send prescriptions electronically to any chemist in the UK, perhaps close to your work if required. This is the preferred method rather than collecting in person.
  • New patients can also download registration forms. You need to create an on-line account to do so via Patient Access at
  • We are now able to offer on-line consultations (E-consults) which allow you to get advice from your Doctor, request a sick certificate or general self help information. See the homepage of our website. Your Doctor may also offer you a video consultation if acceptable to you. You will require a smartphone to use this service.
  • CERTIFICATE FOR SELF ISOLATING. If you need a certificate for work please do not telephone us but use this NHS link where you can easily obtain one.
  • If you have a routine non-urgent problem to discuss we would suggest you defer making an appointment until the Coronavirus threat has passed.
  • Please also avoid making appointments for medication reviews (even if your prescription states that one is due). Either add a message if you request on-line or speak to a Receptionist. We will be allowing limits to lapse and will issue your medication in most cases without seeing you. However you may be asked to make a telephone appointment.
  • Visiting patients at home takes a great deal of our time and places a significant burden on our over-stretched services. Please only request a Home Visit if it is absolutely essential. If you are not sure the Receptionist may be able to to help or you can speak to one of the Doctors. There are likely to be prolonged waits for Home Visits. Always telephone before 10 am if you require a home visit.
  • Childhood immunisations are available as normal. Please don't put off having your child immunised.

We know these are worrying times for many of our patients. We will do all we can to help you and deal with your queries & problems but please bear with us if we take longer to respond than normal.

Changes to process for making appointments at Reception

Please be aware that from Monday 3rd June 2019 onwards we will not be booking appointments at the desk between 2-2.30pm.

We have very few urgent appointments available in the afternoon as we try to deal with all urgent matters in the morning.  It is therefore important that we offer these afternoon appointments in a fair and prompt manner to patients.  We have been reviewing the appointment booking process and feel that having all receptionists available to answer the phone during that time window provides this.

If you feel you have an urgent medical problem that requires a face to face appointment with a doctor that day please phone at 8am to book an appointment as there are more appointments available to be booked in the morning. 

Routine appointments continue to be pre-bookable on the phone, online and at the desk.

We are also able to book evening and weekend appointments at the local hubs where GPs are able to access your medical records and deal with both urgent and routine matters including organising tests and making referrals.  Self-referral services are available such as counselling and physiotherapy without needing to see a doctor.

Telephone Appointments

As an alternative to a face to face consultation you may just want to speak to a Doctor for advice about a problem or may feel that you don't need to be seen face to face. This may also help if, perhaps you cannot get time off work (although please note we also offer appointments at special 'Hubs' in the evenings and weekends - see news item below). We offer booked telephone consultations via Reception. The Doctor will phone you back at or around the agreed time on any number you provide. Please note that Telephone consultations are not suitable for problems where we may need to examine you. For example, skin rashes, chest or abdominal pain. If in doubt ask the Receptionist if a telephone appointment might suffice.

Doctors are also introducing video consultations via your Smartphone and you can also consult on-line, see On line services.

Flu & Pneumonia Vaccinations

If you are over 65 years of age or if under 65 and you suffer with certain chronic conditions such as Diabetes, Asthma, COPD or a cancerous condition you are likely to be eligible for a flu and Pneumonia vaccination. Please enquire via Reception

Additional GP Appointments including evenings and weekends

Bromley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are funding additional GP appointments over the Winter months (and this may extend to Spring) at local GP 'Hubs' run by The Bromley GP Alliance. These appointments will usually be with local GPs who will have full access to your GP Records and can prescribe, advise and refer just as your normal GP who will also see the records from the Consultation. The appointments are in the afternoon/evening and at weekends too. They can only be booked via Reception at GSGMC. These appointments are intended as 'over-flow' slots when all the appointments at GSGMC have been used. Some patients may find these appointments particularly attractive as they are offered from 4-8 pm Mon-Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday. They are not only for emergencies. The locations of the Hubs are:

Early May Bank Holiday

The Medical Centre will be open as usual for GP Services on the early May Bank Holiday, Friday May 8th between 0800 and 1830. Please contact the Centre as normal during those hours. Out of hours please call 111.

Easter bank holiday opening times

We are providing GP practice services on Good Friday and Bank Holiday Monday (10 and 13 April) between the hours of 8am to 6.30pm.   Please call the practice as normal during those hours.  For out of hours GP services please dial 111.​
