Please note that due to one of our Practice Nurses leaving the Practice we very much regret that as of May 1st 2018 we can only offer a limited travel service until a New Nurse is appointed.
This means that temporarily we cannot provide Travel services to patients who are not registered or those who have complicated itineraries. This includes anyone travelling for more than 3 weeks. Please check with Reception well ahead of your planned holiday. If we cannot help there are other local Travel Clinics available and we will continue to provide NHS patients with travel vaccines that are available through the NHS. We very much regret this temporary arrangement and hope to resume our normal Travel service as soon as possible.
Welcome to our Travel Clinic. There is lots of useful information here to help you learn about vaccination requirements and health issues for places you are visiting. Please take some time to browse these pages as there is a lot more to preventing illness while abroad than having a few holiday vaccinations!
We can provide current information on immunisation requirements and administer all vaccines at the Medical Centre. We are a registered Yellow Fever Centre.
To provide a comprehensive assessment of your needs we need you to provide certain information about yourself and your proposed trip. Please complete a travel form for each traveller which you can either download below or preferably complete on-line by clicking here. It is also available from Reception.
Please contact Reception a minimum of 4 days after you submit it on-line or otherwise return it to the surgery. We can then advise about necessary vaccinations and anti-malarials. A full course of treatment can take up to 6 weeks so give as much notice as possible. If your trip is “last minute” there may not be time to complete all the necessary vaccinations but we will advise you accordingly.
You may wish to visit the NHS “Fit for Travel” to give you a preview of the vaccinations that may be necessary and other health information about the country you are visiting. Just select the country you are visiting. We can help with complicated itineraries.
Most vaccinations are provided free of charge on the NHS but some special cases are outside these arrangements and you will have to pay a fee. This includes anti-malarial medication and certain vaccines such as Yellow Fever and Japanese B Encephalitis. For details of additional charges click here.
Our Travel Clinic is available to patients who are not registered at the Medical Centre but in these circumstances you will have to pay for all vaccinations. Your own doctor may be able to provide them free of charge on the NHS so do check.
Travel kits contain basic dressings and First Aid items but also syringes, needles and suture materials are available to purchase. They are recommended for those travelling to remote areas where little medical care may be available.
If you need a Department of Health European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which provides emergency medical treatment while abroad you can apply online by clicking here or in person from post offices and travel agents.
